El Pueblo NOLA
NOLA Village
El Pueblo NOLA / NOLA Village is a community organization rooted in the Village de l’Est
neighborhood of New Orleans East. Founded by community organizer Cristiane Rosales-
Fajardo and powered entirely by volunteers, we help families meet everyday needs, navigate
challenges, and celebrate the cultures that make our community home. Our work connects
education, community engagement, and cultural life.
We help parents advocate for their children in school, understand their rights and options, and
work through barriers in the education system. This includes securing appropriate school
placements and helping families obtain quality educational evaluations so their children can
receive the support they need.
Our direct mutual aid includes food, diapers, baby supplies, and other everyday essentials for
individuals and families. We also connect neighbors with legal resources and offer Know Your
Rights training. That care extends to the animals in our community: we provide pet food, help
people access veterinary services, including spaying and neutering, and assist with finding
homes for domestic animals.
Culture is an essential part of our work. Through events such as Garifuna Days and the Día de
los Muertos parade, we celebrate traditions and help keep them alive across generations.
Language access and rights advocacy also help our neighbors participate more fully in
community life. Across everything we do, we respect the dignity, resilience, and culture of the
people we serve.
